Song for a Sunday

Today's Sunday Song isn't my usual dreamy/folky choice - but rather a loud anthem sort of song.  I still love it, but I wouldn't lie back in a hammock with a Rose Macaulay novel and hum along to it!  Over to Gossip, and 'Heavy Cross'...

Song for a Sunday

I'm a big Siobhan Donaghy fan, so was delighted when I heard that she would be reuniting with the other original members of (hideous band name alert) the Sugababes.  For those not in the know, Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan, and Siobhan Donaghy founded the Sugababes when they were about 15 with the fantastic song Overload, then left and were replaced one by one, so that the Sugababes now has no original members.  So the originals reformed, under the nicer but less imaginative name Mutya Keisha Siobhan, and will soon be releasing this lovely track - Flatline:

Song for a Sunday

I've spent the past few days packing, and must have listened to this about forty times.  It just gets better with every listen - 'Losing You' by Solange.  (N.B. do not interpret this mournful title with my feelings about moving house - this time, I'm actually really excited!)

Song for a Sunday

My favourite singer, Kathryn Williams, is back with a lovely, lovely song - 'Heart-Shaped Stone'.  She made my all-time top two favourite albums (Old Low Light and Little Black Numbers) and this single is very promising for the next...

Song for a Sunday

Not obscure at all, as 145 million views attest, but... oh, P!nk does sing some very catchy songs.  She might even write them... not sure, pass.  Happy Sunday!

Song for a Sunday

First things first, I've been back and replied to comments from the past week or so - sorry it's taken me a while!

Secondly - the Sunday Song.  I actually used to live in the same village as this artist, and I think we were in the local youth group at the same time - but I only discovered yesterday that she writes and sings really good folk songs.  Have a listen to Fade Away by Mae Bradbury:

Song for a Sunday

A band I'm fond of, Texas, have come back with a new song I can't stop listening to - The Conversation:

Song for a Sunday

I've been discovering Joni Mitchell properly over the past couple of days - better late than never, eh? - and wondered which songs y'all might suggest...

This one is justifiably famous, and completely beautiful: Both Sides Now.

Song for a Sunday

I spent a few days trying to remember any tiny snatch of this song, so I could work out what it was, and find it on Youtube.  And I couldn't remember the tune or the lyrics.  And then it came to me!  (That's not a great story, is it?  Well, enjoy the song... '74-'75 by The Connells.)

I could listen to Lana del Rey's Ride over and over and over again all day...

Song for a Sunday

This week's song is suggested by special guest Susan!  You'll probably know her as Susan in TX - one of most beloved members of the blog-reading community, I'm sure you'll agree.  Here is a song her family have been listening to, Kicking and Screaming by Third Day.

Song for a Sunday

This is a rather lovely little song called 'Concrete Wall' by Zee Avi. Innovative 'percussion'!

Song for a Sunday

Happy Sunday, folks.  Bridget Jones's Diary is one of only three films that I have seen twice at the cinema, and it has a pretty fab soundtrack (once you let Geri Halliwell quietly out the back door).  Here's Rosey and 'Love'.

Song for a Sunday

Most of you probably know Natalie Imbruglia's song 'Torn', and thought her something of a one-hit wonder.  Well, I've always rather liked her second album, White Lilies Island, and especially the track 'Do You Love?'  I don't know if this is an official video or made by the Youtube uploader, but... well, have a great Sunday!

Song for a Sunday

Compare and contrast this week, ladies and gentlemen.  I was browsing through various nations' The Voice videos (as you do) and really enjoyed the winner of Australian The Voice - Karise Eden.  Unlike the winners of the US and UK series, she actually seems to have become a success after the show - and she has a really great voice.  Her first single was 'You Won't Let Me' - and I was delighted that they'd chosen a cover of an artist I love, Rachael Yamagata.  So here is Rachael Yamagata's version (first), and Karise Eden's version.  Which do you prefer?

Song for a Sunday

Love this song... that is all!  Over to Paolo Nutini and 'Candy'.  Let it wash over you, and forget that it's only one month til Christmas...

Song for a Sunday

A lovely song that I first heard in the wonderful series Gavin and Stacey - 'You and Me' by Lifehouse.  This is another band that I think is quite well known in the US, but not in the UK.

Enjoy!

Song for a Sunday

Firstly - a few people have been asking about subscribing to Stuck-in-a-Book by email.  It's not something I do for any blog, and so I don't really know how it works, but I've decided to give it a go!  There's a box over in the right-hand column, so... give it a go if you fancy it!  I hope it doesn't stop anybody popping over and commenting, though, as reading everyone's comments is my favourite part of blogging.

Onto the Sunday Song - The Dixie Chicks and 'Not Ready To Make Nice'.  It's a great song, but it also has a rather amusing (but not entirely PC) MadTV spoof, which I've included too.  (You do need to know the background to the song, I think... which you can learn here.)
